Funds raised by the Foundation provide support to the Hospital's capital needs. The Hospital and Foundation work together to prioritize the distribution of funds to items of greatest need. A capital requirements priority list for replacement and update of old equipment is provided by the Hospital to the Foundation. The current year’s goal is set at $400,000 and we are concentrating on many capital needs including:
Light the Way Christmas Campaign
Did you know precisely how active your Southampton Hospital lab was this past year?
Laboratory staff handled an incredible 661,750 procedures.
Our hospital is on the way to being able to look after us better than ever. A first, small step will renovate our little but vital lab facilities so they will give us even better service soon. The lab renovation will enable staff to work more efficiently, provide a more confidential arena and the necessary space to complete their work until the permanent expansion project is completed.
This year, your Light the Way donations will help facilitate these lab improvements and also help to fund current high priority hospital equipment needs.
Your gifts will help “light up” our outdoor hospital Christmas tree up to the top to celebrate $100,000 in donations received.
This Christmas, we will honour you or your loved ones with the enclosed candle tribute card. You may write what you wish on the card… Miss you Mom…Wish you were still here Dad…In memory of …In honour of…Merry Christmas from… You may even personalize it with a photo. Kindly return the tribute card in the enclosed envelope and we will display your card in the hospital. We would also be pleased to send a card acknowledging your Christmas gift in someone’s honour if you provide us with the details.
Regional Digital Mammography
Join the fight against breast cancer and donate locally.
Two digital mammography machines are required to replace aging equipment in Owen Sound.
Saugeen Shores residents account for 21% of the total annual visits to the Owen Sound site for their mammograms.
New, state-of-the-art digital mammography creates opportunities for better images, shorter “squeeze” time and lower radiation.
Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is committed to raising funds, as designated by our donors to the digital mammography campaign.
Estimated total cost $1.5 million.

Carolyn Frances Mack Nursing Education Fund
Robert Mack and the Motz Family Foundation are pleased to announce the formation of this new Education Fund in loving memory of Carolyn Mack. This memorial fund is being provided for the specific purpose of Palliative Care, Cardiac Care and Clinical Technology Education as well as Leadership Training. Southampton Hospital has a priority need for nursing education in these areas. Operating budget constraints only permit the minimum required training opportunities. We encourage our donors to contribute annually to this Fund to leave a lasting legacy of nursing education for the Southampton Hospital nursing staff.
Carolyn Mack (nee Helwig) had been a Team Leader of the inpatient medical and surgical units as well as Clinical Supervisor at Southampton Hospital. The opportunity for education and training through a fund in Carolyn’s honour has been enthusiastically welcomed by the nursing team. There are many heartwarming stories of how the Southampton Hospital staff, during Carolyn’s hospitalization and final days, cared for her so kindly and faithfully, many coming in on their personal time.
Carolyn has been described as a progressive person who was proud of her training and accomplishments. Her career demonstrates that a nursing education fund in Carolyn’s name is a wonderful tribute to her memory.
